"Coming to America: The Jewish Immigrant Experience" Series Continues May 17!
This spring, we're exploring the Jewish immigrant experience in America with three feature films. On May 17, we screen "Avalon."
Through the lens of the Krinhinsky family, we follow along as Jewish Polish immigrants seek a better life in Baltimore, Maryland. With humor, adroitly painting the joys and stresses of success that pull at traditional family relationships, the movie explores assimilation and changing roles in this American life. By director Barry Levinson, the largely autobiographical story features a marvelous script and strong ensemble cast. (1990 drama, 128 minutes, rated PG; screens in English and some Yiddish.)
