Temple Beth Elohim offers so many opportunities for
involvement: study, spiritual commitment
and community enhancement. These diverse and wonderful options encourage us to
consciously choose the ways in which we will give of ourselves.
Although it may not be well known, there is a dedicated
group of Caring Community members who bring hope and healing through creativity
and the work of our hands. We are a group of knitters – women, men and teens –
who gather monthly to create “healing shawls.” These beautifully crafted shawls
vary in color and texture, the subtle signatures of individual knitters. Every
stitch, however, carries the same message: our congregation cares deeply about
you. Whenever a shawl is given to someone in need of physical or spiritual
healing, an accompanying card states, “It is our hope that as you wrap this
shawl around you, you will feel the warmth and love of our spiritual community
– enveloping you with prayers for good health and peaceful well-being.”
Our knitters also make items such as hats, mittens and
scarves to bring warmth and comfort to those in need in a variety of living
situations outside of our temple community.
While knitting, we are conscious of our purpose. We may not
know recipients, but we do know our “work” and effort have significance. If you
are interested in a creative contribution of this kind, please consider joining
us.
We will meet in the Caring Community room from 10:00 am –
12:00 pm the following Sundays:
There are no deadlines – simply conversation, community, and
yes, great joy. We hope to see you soon.
